Prequels usually fail to live up to their predecessors, but The Hobbit is one of the few that manages to destroy that idea. It may be a prequel, but you wouldn’t even know it when reading it for the first time. It feels like it’s own full adventure. It surpasses the Lord of the Rings trilogy and stands completely on its own as one of the best books ever made.

I rarely give anything a perfect score, but I had to for this one. I picked this up when I was fifteen years old, super depressed, bored, and wanted to try reading again. I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and it got me back into reading. Who would have thought that some dumb teenager would read this book and go on to be part of the greatest site for reading ever?
